Three NPP Members of Parliament who supported Mr Alan Kyerematen in the flag-bearership contest of the party have rubbished media reports that they may lose their respective primaries.
They say the reports, carried by the Daily Dispatch newspaper, lacked credibility.
The paper in its Wednesday, August 11, 2010 edition made an analysis of the results of three constituencies – Asokwa, Obusai and Abirem – whose MPs supported Mr Kyerematen and suggested that Messrs Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Edward Ennin and Mrs Esther Obeng Dapaah respectively are likely to lose their primaries.
In the Asokwa Constituency, Mr Kyerematen polled 167 votes as against 246 for Nana Akufo-Addo. Alan obtained 137 votes in Mr Ennin’s constituency compared to Nana Addo’s 342 votes and in the Abirem Constituency, the MP’s preferred candidate, Kyerematen got only five votes as against 313 for Nana Akufo-Addo.
In the light of these results, editor of the Daily Dispatch, Mr Ben Ephson believes that if any of the supporters of Nana Akufo-Addo in those constituencies decide to contest the primaries with the sitting MPs, they will oust the MPs.
But the MPs say Mr Ephson’s analyses are bogus.
Mr Ennin told Joy News the Dispatch editor could not be taken seriously because he had made predictions based on researches and analysis in the past that turned out to be false.
He said he never contested any election with Nana Addo and that it was Alan who did and wondered why any analyst could project that he will lose his seat.
Mr Kofi Jumah shared similar sentiments.
He accused the Dispatch of trying to cause disaffection amongst supporters of the opposition party.
But Mr Ephson reminded the vociferous MP of the problems he had in his constituency in the last elections culminating in an NPP person contesting the seat as an independent candidate and polling 13,000 votes.
The pollster and election watcher wondered how Mr Jumah could campaign for Nana Akufo-Addo in 2012, given the damaging things he [Jumah] said about the NPP's flag-bearer prior to the primaries.
