A jealous husband has shot and killed the wife in a village near Peki in the Volta Region.
Thirty-eight-year-old Apuru Wedeko shot the deceased wife in the chest late in the night after a quarrel over a phone call the wife received from a man.
Police say the couple who have been married for over eight years with two children, have had disagreements for a while because the husband suspects his wife is dating another man.
Volta Regional Police Commander DCOP David Ampah-Bennin tells Joy News the suspect attempted to shoot himself through the mouth but missed narrowly.
He says the police intend to prosecute the man for murder and attempted suicide if he does not die from his injuries.
The body of the deceased wife Janet Gadzekpo has since been deposited at the Margaret Makwet Hospital morgue, the same hospital the husband is receiving treatment.
