All that observers, politicians and true believers of party politics are saying after the just-ended historic New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates’ conference is how the conference has bound members than it was initially speculated it would do: divided them.
One of the observations so far made about the NPP congress which saw the election of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, as the party’s flag-bearer to the 2012 general election trickled in from the NPP branch in Canada.
In a press statement signed and issued by Prince Ofosu Sefah, the branch secretary, the party took note of how members, delegates and proxy voters comported themselves so well which made the entire process a successful one.
Prince Ofosu Sefah, challenged that the election has blazed the trail for other political parties like the National Democratic Congress [NDC], Convention Peoples Party [CPP], Peoples National Convention [NCP] and others in Ghana as well as other parts of Africa to emulate therefore not surprising that some representatives of political parties from certain African countries were present to learn.
“Indeed the NPP has been strengthened and united by this presidential primaries therefore urging all other political parties which believes in true democracy, good governance and running of suitable party politics to emulate our example” he threw a challenge.
On behalf of the executives and entire members of NPP Canada Branch, Prince Ofosu Sefah, congratulated Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo for his decisive win in the last presidential primaries which he described the results as very historic in the annals of the party’s history.
The four other contestants namely Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, Mr. Isaac Osei,Dr. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng and Rev. John Kwame Koduah were not left out but also received praises for offering Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo the winner, a credible competition and offering the leadership alternatives to the NPP.
Prince Ofosu Sefah, also used the opportunity to commiserate with those who were involved in any form of accident whiles discharging their duties as party faithful in service to the party saying,” your pains and sacrifices shall not be in vain”.
The NPP Canada branch, last but not the least, praised the national executives, local leadership committees, teams as well as councils and ordinary party faithful for organizing and managing the primaries so successfully considering the huge expansion in the party’s number of delegates from approximately 2,500 to 115,000 members.
The branch indicated its readiness to work with all and sundry who are interested in helping the NPP win decisively in both the 2012 parliamentary and presidential elections through the director of international affairs that coordinated the overseas delegate votes in efficient manner.
