Zain Ghana has thrown its weight behind yet another laudable educational initiative as it drives to improve the general standard of education in the country particularly in the area of information technology.
The latest project, a brain child of DreamOval, one of the leading providers of internet and Mobile software solutions creates a platform for the training of teachers mainly drawn from deprived schools in the Greater Accra region with an objective of improving teacher quality and, ultimately academic education.
For a start, 30 of the teachers from selected districts in the region have benefited from a free three-day intensive ICT training which took them through structured courses like computer applications, search engines and emails. They were also introduced to the power of the internet and how it could be harnessed to augment classroom work, teaching skills and their personal development.
Mr. Francis Ahene-Affoh, Business Development & Marketing Manager of Dream Oval said “Giving back to society is a culture we hold so dear and preach; this initiative is just one of the many to demonstrate that our actions are always in sync with our words. Through this project which falls within my outfit’s strategic priorities for this year, we hope to, among others, contribute meaningfully toward bridging the yawning digital divide and improving the quality of education, teaching-learning methods, curriculum development and communication among teachers”. We are not restricting it to this region only; it will fairly be replicated in the rest of the regions across the country. He expressed appreciation to the other partners including Google Ghana, Ashesi University College, Voltic Mineral Water and Legacy & Legacy.
The Manager of Corporate Communications & External Affairs of Zain Ghana, Mrs. Carmen Bruce-Annan, admitted that technology has ushered in a complete turn-around in every facet of life. She said “In today’s information age, there is no illusion about the fact that virtually everything is driven by and markedly enhanced with ICT and so is teaching and learning, that is the reason we did not hesitate in collaborating with Dream Oval on this lofty project that promises to add the much needed value in knowledge acquisition by teachers and subsequent transfer to pupils and students across the country for effective empowerment”.
