Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch in Montreal-Canada, Nana Duah, has rebuffed the assertions by the Deputy Minister for Local Government Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah that the party rigged the 2008 elections.
Nana Duah pointed out that majority of the electorate were deceived by the then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) “pack of lies” that came in numerous unsubstantiated allegations which were leveled against the former president, his ministers and NPP activists. The situation blindfolded the electorate to vote wrongly for the NDC party, he said.
“The NPP never thought of rigging the last election in anyway. Rather it lost the election because of the lies the NDC activist told the electorate which made them to lose confidence in the NPP so it is never true that our party attempted to rig the 2008 elections with members voting 15 times as Afriyie Ankrah was saying,” Nana Duah indicated.
Nana Duah who was the former Asantefuohene of Montreal and known in private life as Hans Peter Duah, was speaking to this reporter in an exclusive interview at Montreal over the weekend.
The chairman compared the NDC 2008 campaign strategies to that of “April Fool” events where certain persons concoct lies, tell innocent people just to deceive them to believe what they were saying.
According to him, Ghanaians have now realized how they were deceived by the NDC party activists who were hungry for power and used crook means to twist the minds of the electorate to vote for them and are now demanding accountability from the government for the unfulfilled promises it made to them.
“They blindfolded the electorates by telling them the Kufuor administration was the most corrupt government the country has ever had. They described the NHIS as bad, standard of education as falling, crime rate very high, lack of employment, poor economic systems with sky scraping poverty during the reigns of the NPP government.
“But what are we observing now? All that Kufuor did and NDC was not happy about, they scrambled for them immediately they took over power. Under the administration of the incumbent president Prof Atta Mills the youth are getting to the extreme by seizing public toilets, locking government officials and what have you,” Nana Duah asserted.
He observed that, the NPP activists failed to refute all the unsubstantiated allegations the NDC propagandists made against the party, its minister’s, president, candidates and activists, creating the platform for the NDC hawks to deceive the electorates to vote for them.
Nana Duah said,” instead of updating ourselves with events that were unfolding, propaganda messages that were doing the rounds against our party and rebuff them to keep the confidence of our voters, we took things easy which made the NDC to sail through with their diabolical tactics”.
The NPP activist suggested to the national executives to set up what could be termed as “Rapid Response to Assertions Section” at the party headquarters where members will be always ready to response to NDC lies and tell the electorate the truth that will not blindfold them again to commit the blunder of voting for the NDC come 2012.
He further reacted to the call by the Minister for Youth and Employment, Mr. Emanuel Teye Mensah, that foot soldiers should obtain copies of Jiezel Yadzji confession of having extra marital affair with former president J.A. Kufuor as a campaign tool for 2012.
He said that confession will not put food on the table for foot soldiers or solve any of their numerous problems as they keep complaining day after day.
He challenged that Jiezel Yadzji’s confession will never solve the intermittent electricity power outage, continuous shut down of Tema Oil Refinery, reduce the crime rate, build school blocks for children to study or create better working salary for them therefore they should throw it away.
Nana Duah stated that the NDC government has failed Ghanaians and therefore finding different ways and means to stay out of trouble. This, the NDC is doing by picking on a former president’s private life matters and using it as campaign tool to deceive electorates ones again, he suggested.
The chairman charged his party faithful to rise up and carry the good message of the NPP into homes, schools, work places and churches to start winning votes for the party in the upcoming general elections warning that Ghanaians are no more ready for any “April Fool politics” come 2012.
