The Association of Ghana Industries is unhappy with the reduction in electricity tariffs announced by the Vice Presidential committee tasked to consider what could be done to mitigate the impact of a recent increase.
Whilst residential consumers will enjoy a one percent reduction, some class of commercial consumers will see as much as a 27 percent cut in their tariffs.
Mr. Kweku Awotwi, Chief Executive Officer of Volta River Authority and a member of the committee explained the review.
“What the three utilities have agreed is that we will all take a 10 per cent reduction in our revenue requirement. That number comes to ¢113 million and we added another ¢2 million just for the residential even though the residential customers were not part of the exercise.
“What we did was we took that ¢115million and basically spread it as a subsidy differently across the different customer classes.
But the Association of Ghana Industries says the reduction is not good enough.
Andrew Quayson who represented the AGI however says they are happy with the automatic adjustment of the tariffs every three months.
The committee also managed to clear some misunderstanding with the original increase in June.
The Vice President called for the immediate implementation of the review.
