American oil explorers KOSMOS energy has asked for more time to present their response on the recommendation by the committee tasked to investigate its oil spill.
KOSMOS was found to have spilled low toxicity oil-base-mud off the cape three points involving some 690 barrels.
The technical committee set up to investigate the spill faulted them for negligence on the second and third spills and imposed a fine as part of a twenty point recommendation.
Government said it was going to issue its final statement after KOSMOS had been heard.
Sherry Ayittey, Environment Science and Technology Minister told Joy Business they have had to hold on to their final decision pending Kosmos' response.
“Kosmos wrote to us asking us to extend the date line for them. The dateline should have expired the 5th of September. But then, you have to give them the opportunity to exhaust all possible avenues so that they don’t feel that you are being hostile to them
“At the end of the day they will comply,” she said.
