The leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOSGAG) says its one week nationwide protest appears to be yielding the desired dividend.This follows a crunch meeting with the Fair Wages Commission on Thursday, one they describe as successful.CLOGSAG staged a nationwide protests last week to demand their right to negotiate separately for better pay.The protest got murkier with name calling between CLOGSAG members and officials of the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare.And although the Fair Wages Commission described their protests as illegal, it agreed to meet with them to look at a possible job re-evaluation after complaints that about 98% of them had been rated low.It however refused to address their demands to negotiate separately. But in an interview with Joy News Edward Foli, National President of the Association expressed hope that all their demands will be addressed subsequently.Head of the Fair Wages Commission George Smith Graham in an interview said they are happy to carry out their professional duty to the satisfaction of CLOGSAG.He said the Commission is always ready to resolve all technical issues surrounding the Single Spine Salary Structure.The Fair Wages Commission has however deferred CLOGSAG’s demands for the right to negotiate to the Labour Commission for interpretation.Labour expert Austin Gammeh is however calling for understanding to prevail between the stakeholders handling the CLOGSAG issue.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
