Persons suffering from hip and knee disorders who hitherto could not afford the cost of treatment will now heave some sigh of relieve as a team of specialist surgeons and paramedics are on hand to provide free surgery to patients.
The group, Operation Walk Syracuse from the USA in collaboration with Vita Milk and the Child Malnutrition Foundation NGO has brought a lot of hope and relief to dozens suffering from this condition in St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua.
Harold Yeboah Amoa, Communications manager of the team observed that many of such patients are giving up in society, hence the need to support them.
The Marketing Manager for Vitamilk Ghana, Mr. Samuel Boateng said they were working with the team as part of their social responsibility contribution to society.
Hip and knee disorders have rendered many incapable as many have suffered health complications including the inability to walk without human or clutch assistance. In some cases, patients with such conditions are bed ridden due to the trauma associated with their situation among several other health conditions.

Patients who have suffered these abnormalities especially in Ghana have either been stigmatized or made to feel that little could be done to get them relief. However, some patients who want to resort to the surgery option in finding a permanent solution to their condition are not financially capable.
In Ghana, one has to cough up about ¢50,000 to undergo a surgery to rectify a hip and knee complication.
The plight of persons with hip and knee disorders will soon be a thing of the past following the decision by a group of specialized surgeons and other paramedics to conduct a free operation for patients.
Mr.Boateng disclosed that the company is making arrangement to bring in another medical team to provide free eye care service to Ghanaians.
Dr. Kimberley Murray, Clinical Director of the Operation Walk Syracuse, said they will be screening hundreds of Ghanaians who are suffering from joint disease and perform a free surgery for them.
She attributed the health condition to several health complications including diabetes and sickle cell disease.
One of the patients who was overjoyed with the news told Joy News one he was optimistic his situation will change after the surgery.
