Mobile operator Zain has slashed its call rate from 12 Ghana pesewas to 8 Ghana pesewas per minute to all networks.
It comes less than a week after rival network Vodafone reduced tariffs for its prepaid subscribers.
Unlike Vodafone however, both prepaid and postpaid customers of Zain will enjoy the tariff reduction and registration is not required.
The move appears to be directly targeted at competition, but Zain's Country Manager Philip Sowah disagrees.
Zain by this reduction in tariffs retains its status as the most affordable network for both post-paid and prepaid mobile phone users. It has undoubtedly set the stage for a possible tariff war between the telecom operators with subscribers the likely winners.
MTN charges its prepaid subscribers 14 Ghana pesewas per minute for calls made during peak hours.
TIGO charges a little over 16 Ghana pesewas whilst Kasapa charges 15 Ghana pesewas also for peak time calls by prepaid users.
