An Accra-based businessman has been duped of GH¢4,000 in an attempt to supply spare parts to a group of people who claimed to be working with Kosmos Energy.
Narrating his story to the Ghana News Agency on Friday, Mr Ernest Egyare said about a week ago, he received a call from a man who gave his name as Nana Kofi.
He said the man claimed to know him as a businessman and expressed interest in doing business with him.
Mr Egyare said Nana Kofi claimed he was working with Kosmos and that the company needed local businessmen to supply them with some specific spare parts.
He therefore suggested to Mr Egyare that since he (Egyare) was working with the company, he could not sell directly to them and so directed Nana kofi to see a supplier at the Tema Port who could supply the parts to enable him to do the business with Kosmos.
Mr Egyare said, "I got excited about the whole business when a white man called me and told me that he had been directed to me as the one who supplies the machine parts and I should meet him at Labadi Beach Hotel for us to discuss issues.
"I met the white man who immediately requested for 10 of the said machine parts. I quickly went to the Tema Port to see the recommended supplier who told me one of the parts costs 750 dollars."
Mr Egyare said he made a deposit of GH¢4,000 to enable him to get the needed parts to supply to the white man. However, when he arrived at the agreed meeting place, the buyer was nowhere to be found and attempts to reach all the people connected to the business had failed.
"I quickly reported to the Police Headquarters to share my sad story but to my surprise, I realized the police had had several reports of such cases and it seemed they could do nothing to help me," he said. He added, "I want to share by story with the rest of Ghanaians and the world at large so that people would be cautious when entering into the oil business."
