The Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ms Joyce Aryee, has called on journalists not to give "irresponsible" public officials the platform to make unguarded statements.
She was speaking in reference to comments made by Deputy Coordinator of the National Youth Council Prince Derrick-Adjei, who alleged that some Members of Parliament are homosexuals.
Ms Joyce Aryee condemned the comments, charging that the media cannot escape blame for publishing such ‘disparaging remarks’.
She observed that recent comments made by Dr Tony Aidoo, describing people who speak in tongues as mad, would not have made news if the media had ignored them.
Ms Aryee called for a media blackout for such comments in order to instill sanity in the country's body politic.
