Four Armed robbers who snatched a Toyota Hilux pick-up with registration number GT 2166 Z, from its driver at Ahondwu-Ketua, a community around the Nsawam Hospital in the Akwapim South district of the Eastern region, have been arrested. The robbers, Francis Adjei, 30, Mohammed Seidu, 28, Kofi Isaac, 28 and Kwadwo Bismark, 27, are believed to be part of a gang who have been stealing and snatching cars in Ahondwu-Ketua on a weekly basis. The driver of the pick-up which belongs to LESKEN Company Limited in Bolgatanga, told the police that he was assigned to take some women to their homes at Ahondwu-Ketua, after attending a funeral in Bolgatanga. The Akwapim South District Police Commander, Superintendent Isaac Boabeng has stated that the four would be transferred to Koforidua very soon for prosecution to start. An eyewitness, Samuel Gbagbo, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE via phone, said at about 7:30pm on Saturday, 18th September, he heard some noise outside his house which suggested that some people were struggling over something. According to him, he tried to get out of the house to verify what was going on, only to sec four armed men struggling with another person, apparently over the key to the Toyota Hilux pickup. "Out of fear, I rushed back to house to hide from any attack, in no time I heard the screeching sound of car tyres, with the pick-up speeding off. The driver of the Toyota Hilux pick-up started screaming for help." The eyewitness stated that two of the robbers could not join the pick-up or the taxi they used to chase the pick-up and so hid at a nearby corner. Unfortunately for the robbers, the Toyota pick-up driver saw them and pointed them out to some young men in the area who gave them a hot chase. They were finally caught on a pineapple farm on the outskirts of Ahondwu-Ketua area, he added. According to Samuel Gbagbo, after the area boys had given the robbers some beatings, they handed them over to the Nsawam Police. The arrest of the two armed robbers subsequently led to the arrest of the other two and the retrieval of the pickup on Sunday, 19th September. Meanwhile, the agric manager of a fruit juice company, Pinora Ltd at Asamankese, has told DAILY GUIDE that on September 10, 2010 around the 7:30pm, his official Toyota Hilux pickup with registration number FZB 94 Y was also snatched around Ahondwo-Ketua. He said on that day, he had had several meetings with some farmer groups and by the close of the day, he was very tired and so he decided to use a short cut through Ahodwu-Ketua. "I was almost getting out of the Ahondwu-Ketua area when some men crossed my pick-up, pulled me out of the car and took away the car."
