Armed robbers are reported to have robbed about five buses on the Tarkwa-Kumasi highway early Wednesday morning.
The robbers made away with mobile phones, cash and other valuables they seized from passengers.
The Police have confirmed the robberies.
The driver of one of the buses, Daniel Essel, told Joy News he was instructed to park by the roadside and when he did, the robbers ordered him to turn off the lights of the bus.
That he said was immediately followed by an order for him to open his door and before he could do that, the robbers had forced open the door and yanked him out.
The driver said while that was happening other robbers were busily robbing the passengers of another vehicle behind his bus.
Essel said some passengers scrambled to hide their money and those who were unlucky had their money seized.
He said the ordeal lasted for about an hour before the robbers fired two warning shots and ran into the bush.
Joy News also spoke to a passenger in another Metro Mass bus with registration number GW 2848 Z.
He said when the bus in which he was travelling was stopped, he noticed a number of vehicles had parked so he thought the poor nature of the road had forced the buses to stop.
He said he got out of the bus to assess the situation but was confronted by a gun-totting man holding a torch.
At that point, it dawned on him that his bus had been stopped by armed robbers.
He said the robbers ransacked the bus and seized whatever valuables they could get from the helpless passengers.
