AMA to benefit from refurbished computer centres

A Digital Development Corporation (DDC) in the US and African Development Crusade (AFRIDEC) Ghana, a non-governmental organisation, is partnering Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to establish an Information, Communication and Telecommunication (ICT) centre in Accra. The agreement was made during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the tripartite organisations, to pilot a project, which involves the establishment of computer refurbishing centres in the metropolis. DDC, which is the leading party will deliver 5,000 computers, AFRIDEC will provide the funds to run the project while AMA, the recipient of the computers will distribute them to the beneficiary schools. Mr David Ohene Wiredu, Executive Director of AFRIDEC said the project would help bridge the digital gap. He expressed the need for stakeholders to support the project to eradicate poverty in the metropolis through job creation and ICT education. Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive commended partners of the project for offering the opportunity for the youth to gain education in ICT and prepare them for a future career.
