The National Disaster Management Organization has said it is too early to declare a national disaster over the floods that have submerged several communities. More than 30,000 people have been displaced by floods in the Central Gonja District alone. Thousands of others have also been displaced in the Eastern and Volta Regions. NADMO boss Kofi Portuphy told Joy News his outfit needs both local and international support to adequately cater for the flood victims. He said the organization will not declare the floods a national disaster simply to meet the requirement to access international assistance. International assistance though, he maintained, is welcome “so that we can continue to manage the situation.” Source: Joy News/Ghana
