The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has inaugurated eight school blocks, a mechanized borehole and a-70 unit market stalls built with funds from the District Development Fund (DDF).
The beneficiary schools include Prempeh Basic “A’’, Adiebeba M/A, Opoku Ware, Wesley, Bremang, Apramang, Emena, Bomso and Aboabo basic schools.
The mechanized borehole has been constructed at New Agogo with the market stalls sited at Bompata.
DDF is a reward for district assemblies that operate within laid down procedures to promote good governance.
Mr Samuel Sarpong, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), repeated the KMA’s resolve to bring development to the people in the metropolis by way of improvement in education, health and sanitation infrastructure.
He counselled the beneficiaries to ensure that the structures are kept in good condition at all times.
The MCE expressed worry about the situation where facilities provided in the communities deteriorate in no time due to neglect and said this needed to end.
Oheneba Adusei-Poku, the Akyempimhene, praised the KMA for its efforts at speeding up the development of the metropolis.
He said he was particularly happy about the building of additional classrooms for schools.
Mrs Gladys Amaning, the Metropolitan Director of Education, said they were grateful to the Assembly.
Mr George Tawiah, the head-teacher of Prempeh College Experimental Basic “A”, appealed for a computer laboratory for the school to promote the teaching and learning of Information, Communication Technology (ICT).
