The Police in Accra are advising motorists to invest in their personal safety to stop carjackers who have been on the rampage in recent times.
Motorists are also to take extra precautions and refrain from engaging persons who may try to snatch their cars, in any form of struggle.
The advice comes on the back of the arrest of an 8-member car snatching syndicate. Twenty one vehicles have been retrieved from the syndicate.
Police say an increasing number of people have suffered carjacking in Accra.
A man who had his car snatched from a taxi driver a few weeks ago told Joy News his driver had picked a man holding a car battery and who claimed his car had broken down at around Kasoa.
He said on reaching the Weija Dam, the passenger asked the driver to park and as soon as he did, a number of people wielding guns pulled up.
The taxi driver’s passenger used a belt to strangle him, allowing the other assailants to takeover the vehicle.
In view of this, the Accra Regional police PRO, Chief Inspector Kweku Dompreh told Joy News’ Cyrus De-graft Johnson drivers must desist from using unfamiliar routes and must not stop on the instructions of their passengers in secluded areas.
He said in as much as the police are doing their best to track and retrieve stolen cars, motorists ought to be extremely careful.
