Lawyers for Amina Mohammed, the lady at the centre of the controversial 'mass rape' and armed robbery story are excited at the Human Rights Courts’ decision to grant her bail. They say the court upheld justice in the case and that the decision by the circuit court to remand her was unfortunate. The Human Rights Courts presided over by Justice Paul Peter Dery turned down a request by Director of Public Prosecution, Getrude Aikins, for the court to refuse the bail application for Amina’s own safety, citing the controversial nature of the story. Lead defence counsel, Prof. Ken Attafuah, soon after Justice Dery ordered that Amina should be given bail, told Joy News’ Cyrus De-graft Johnson there was no justification for keeping the lady in custody. “This is a simple misdemeanor and as much tension as [the case] might have created in the country, the fact remains that this is a misdemeanor; it is a bailable offence,” he said. As of midday Friday, Prof Attafuah said the defence lawyers were in the process of securing the true certified copies of the court’s order with which to secure Amina’s release. Amina was arrested last week and charged with publishing false information to cause fear and panic on Monday. Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
