Ghana Boxing Authority yesterday paid an official visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports ,Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
The GBA made Hon.Nii Lante Vanderpuye aware that the National Sports Authority is demanding 500 cedis each time it's to hold a board meeting which GBA it's absolutely unfair for the federation since it has never supported the federation financially. Upon hearing this Hon Minster promised to solve the situation as soon as possible.
Hon .Vanderpuije hinted on the Boxing Arena at Korle Gonno which will include the main boxing arena for promotions, indoor gynamsium,tennis court ,volley ball court,sports college and a physiotherapy department which would be strictly commercial (at a fee).
The property would be managed like SSNIT properties in order to generate the necessary income to be able to maintain the facilities . Its management would be entrusted to reps from the Ministry of youth and Sports,Ghana Boxing Authority or Ghana Boxing Federation ,National Sports Authority SSNIT and other stakeholders. The Boxing Arena would be commissioned hopefully 3rd week of September.
The minister hinted that at an AU Ministers meeting, tribute were paid to Muhammad Ali,Stephen Keshi and South African cricket player. The minister suggested that AU should organize a boxing tournament in honour Muhammad Ali.
An agreement was reached that Ghana should host the tournament, meanwhile He also has intentions of bringing Don king on that faithful day. He added that talks are still on going.
The GBA pleaded with Hon.Nii Lante Vanderpuye for financial support to be able to attend WBC and other affliates Conventions .
On a sad note, the family of Coach Emmanuel Nii Teiko Tagoe officially informed the Minister of youth and Sports about the demise of Coach, In conclusion the minister pledged his readiness to support Ghana Boxing Authority.
