Undefeated Ghanaian  Richard Commey would have wished the biggest bout of his life to be staged in Ghana, but has to settle for Pennsylvania, where he will battle Robert Easter Jnr for the vacant IBF lightweight title on September 9.

The Accra-based boxer, irrespective of the geographical location is ready for the big day and is taking massive punishment in the gym to ensure he is conditioned both physically and mentally for the task.

His Sauerland Promotions and Street Wise Management had hoped to win the bid to stage the bout in Ghana but eventually the IBF subjected the bout to a purse bid after which the final date was arrived at.

"I have worked hard all my life for a great day like this. Just as I have been saying all along, I want to do this and I will deliver this to my people," he told Joy Sports during a visit to his Bronx Gym.

Commey, originally a kick boxer has gone 24 bouts undefeated and want to make his 25 bout a historic one. Though his last five wins came through technical knockouts, he is choosing his optimistic mood carefully. "Robert Easter Jr will not come easy because just like me he is undefeated and would want to guard that jealously. It will be a hard tough fight but I am focused on that one thing which is victory," he said.

The Ghanaian boxer currently trains at the Bronx Gym, in his native, James Town, a suburb of Ghana's capital Accra owned by his trainer Lawrence Carl Lokko. He engages in intensive training  twice a day.

Easter Jr, who hails from Ohio, USA is an orthodox boxer and has proven a tough customer for his previous opponents. He recorded TKOs in his last four bouts and has travelled the full distance only twice in 17 bouts. With a reach of 76, Easter Jr has an advantage and will look forward to utilizing it against Commey who whose reach is a little over 69.

"I have been training very hard. It's a part of me. I know where I have come from and where I am going. Greats from my country have towed this path before and in wanting to emulate their example, I need to apply all the possible seriousness," the 29 year old boxer said.
