Managers of the National Youth Employment Programme have indicated that their current financial difficulties will be over once they secure a more sustainable source of funding.According to them the situation will greatly improve once Parliament approves a proposal that will allocate 60 percent of the Communications Service Tax to fund their operations.Complaints about non-payment or delayed payment of allowances continue to be a major feature of the programme since its introduction some five years ago.“This government has made some commitment and I can tell you it has been approved we are just waiting for Parliament to approve [the allocation],” he stated.Deputy Co-ordinator in charge of Communications, Ibrahim Mutala told Joy News apart from the Talk Time Tax, other initiatives were being explored to sustain the programme.He said the NYEP was focusing on vocations and trades modules where people are empowered and where the Programme doesn’t need to pay them.
