A funeral home director in Houston is allegedly taking selfies with hearses and caskets, posting some of the eerie images on Facebook.
ABC13.com reports that Rose Molina made the shocking discovery last weekend during services for her 32-year-old cousin.
“That day was especially hard for us because Saturday was the one-year anniversary of the loss of my grandmother, and they were buried next to each other,” Molina told the station.
But after her cousin’s body was placed in a hearse, Molina claims funeral director David L. Jones took what appeared to be a selfie with her cousin’s casket in the hearse behind him.
“You could see that he had it kind of angled, you know,” she continued. “You have it positioned in a certain way to catch the background.”
Molina said she asked Jones if he had taken a selfie, but he insisted he was just fixing his tie.
Molina later went to Jones’ Facebook page and found several photographs of Jones with hearses and caskets behind him.
Molina said the incident “tainted” her cousin’s funeral.
“He disrespected this day in my family’s life,” she told ABC13.com, adding that she plans to file an official complaint with state officials.
Joaquin Leal, owner of Leal Funeral Home, told ABC13.com that Jones is an independent contractor who was working at a Jacinto City location when the incident allegedly occurred. Leal declined an on-camera interview, but said Jones’ alleged conduct was unacceptable. Leal said he also called Molina to apologize.
Kyle Smith, staff attorney for the Texas Funeral Services Commission, which oversees licensing and compliance of funeral directors, told The Post that Jones has been a licensed funeral director since Dec. 1, 2011. He had no complaints on file as of Tuesday, he said.
Smith said Jones could face a fine up to $5,000 if found guilty of unprofessional conduct after an investigation by the agency. Smith reiterated that no investigation will be launched until an official complaint is received.
“We’d have to look at several factors to determine whether unprofessional conduct occurred,” Smith said.
