Students of St. Louis Training College in Kumasi have rejected an apology from their Principal for ordering a search that intruded into their private parts.
The over 600 teacher trainees of the College were all lined up last week and their private parts examined. The tutors attempted to determine which of them had had an abortion following the discovery of blood soaked sanitary pads behind one of the dormitories of the campus.
The action received strong resentment and bashing from human rights activists who demanded the school authorities to render an unqualified apology to the students or the matter be referred to the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
Joy News sources close to the students indicate that an apology has been rendered by the Principal at a handing over ceremony of the school on Saturday. But some of the students who spoke to Joy News said the apology is not accepted.
“She just said they are sorry for the incident…our parents are worried…if they are really sorry they should go public and render the apology,” a disgruntled student said.
“Nothing shows that she was sorry about the situation. One of our tutors said we should send the case to where we want and they don’t care,” another student told Joy News.
