The National Labour Commission has described as illegal an intended strike by the Coalition of Concerned Teachers. The Coalition had notified the Ghana Education Service it would embark on the strike action from today because it is disappointed with their placement on the single spine salary structure, adding that government has failed repeatedly to address their concerns. But the Labour Commission says any such act would be illegal because it contravenes the law. Spokesperson for the Commission, Mohammed Affum told Joy News that while the Labour Act grants workers the right to embark on strikes to back their demands for improved service conditions, the exercise of that right must be predicated on certain conditions. He said the Commission will meet the Coalition today over the matter. Source: Joy News/Ghana
