Come Tuesday, March 7, the new GHC5 denomination set to be issued by Bank of Ghana (BoG) would be in circulation.
The note is being introduced as part of the Bank of Ghana’s 60th anniversary which will fall on March 4.
The commemorative note would have fresh security features and a new portrait at the front and back with additional features that are sensitive to aid the visually impaired, Head of Issue at the Central Bank, Edward Musey told Joy News.
He explained that because Monda, March 6 is a public holiday to celebrate Ghana's Independence, the Bank would observe the day as such but assured that by March 7, all banks across the country would have the new denomination.
According to Mr Musey, although there may be similarities with the current note, in terms of colours and other features, the new note would have some variations.
"There would be a significant departure in terms of the upgrade of the security feature on the new GHC5 note, including the public security feature which would be introduced," he said.
He added that the new notes would not have the Big Six, but rather have an individual portrait adding, "those who played a role in Ghana's history need to be recognised."
"The reverse of the new note to signify the current economic system and structure," Mr Musey disclosed.
Governor of Bank of Ghana Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku is expected to unveil specimen of note the new denomination on Friday, March 3, at a brief ceremony in Accra.
