Mr Benjamin Sam of the Internal Revenue Service was on Thursday elected Greater Accra branch Chairman of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) for a four-year tenure of office.
He polled 68 votes while the other contender, Mr Osei Kwabena had 34 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Sam noted that globalization had brought a greater challenge to Unions and therefore it behooved on
workers to work hard to protect their jobs and also improve on
conditions of service.
He gave the assurance that training and education programmes
would be instituted to create awareness among workers about what was
prevailing on the socio-economic front of the Unions to enable them to
prepare themselves towards any eventuality with the emerging economic
challenges.
Other officers elected were Mr Christopher Larweh, Vice Chairman;
Miss Janet Koranteng, Second Vice Chairperson; Mr Seth Darko Duodoo,
Secretary; Mr Doe John, Assistant Secretary; Madam Evelyn Anabila,
First Trustee and Mr Benjamin K. Mintah, Second Trustee.
Mr Elvis Vanlare, Regional Secretary of GTUC who swore in the
officers, advised them to show commitment and dedication to their call
into office by exercising some innovation to strengthen the Union.
