Ten people have been confirmed dead in a Volta Lake boat disaster. Thirteen people were traveling from Mako-Manya, a village in the Pru district to Yeji when their boat capsized. All seven members of one family died whilst another family lost two children. Though initial reports suggested the accident was caused by strong winds, the DCE for the area Masawud Muhammed suspects the boat was overloaded. He said apart from the human beings, the boat also contained bicycles; all of which might have caused the boat to capsize. He told Joy News one of the men was able to rescue his wife but could not save two of his children. Masawud Muhammed stressed the need for life jackets to be introduced in order to prevent future disasters. He said the three people who survived are safe. Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
