Suspect George Addae Marfo, a 25-year-old spare driver who is wanted for stabbing a colleague driver to death at Santa Maria, has finally been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command.
He was arrested together with Joseph Idum, 30, at Russia for their involvement in a car snatching spree at Sowutoum on July 1, 2011.
Narrating the incident to Daily Guide, the crime officer in charge of the Accra Regional Police Command, Superintendent Frank Adufati, indicated that the suspects - George Addae Marfo and Joseph Idum - on July 1, 2011 around 3am snatched a Kia Pride taxi cab with registration number GH8323-11. The suspects snatched the vehicle at Sowutuom with a dagger and bolted.
He said police personnel at the Accra regional command later received a tip off that the Kia Pride taxi was being offered for sale at Russia.
“When police personnel proceeded to the place, we realized that the taxi which used to be yellow and white had been changed to white, with registration number changed to DV533360-V.”
The two bolted upon seeing the police but were given a hot chase and arrested at Mamprobi Banana Inn.
He said at the police station, it was discovered that suspect George Addae Marfo was on the police wanted list for a murder case.
He was identified as the one who allegedly murdered one Samuel Mensah on May 2, 2011 at Santa Maria.
Recounting how George Addae Mintah committed the murder, the crime officer said George Addae Mintah was a bosom friend of the deceased, Samuel Mensah, 26 who was a trotro driver.
On April 20, 2011, the deceased, Samuel Mensah gave his vehicle to the suspect to use, after which the suspect would render an account.
“After using the vehicle for the day, Suspect George Mintah did not return the vehicle to the deceased but rather went and parked it in his house at Russia.
“After the deceased located the suspect and requested the day’s sales, George picked a quarrel with the deceased,” he added.
Superintendent Adufati averred that on May 2, 2011, around 8pm, the deceased met the suspect again at Santa Maria, a suburb of Accra and asked for his money.
“While they were exchanging words, the suspect pulled out a knife from his pocket and instantly stabbed the friend in the abdomen, killing him instantly.”
He stated that the suspect bolted after committing the act.
He said the body has since been buried after a post-mortem at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
