The Ministry of Food and Agriculture in collaboration with the Birim South District Assembly are implementing the Inland Valley’s Rice Project for Akyem-Nyankomase in the Eastern Region.
Nana Baffour Mensah-Takyi, District Chief Executive (DCE) of Birim South District Assembly, told the Ghana News Agency at Akyem Swedru on Thursday that the project was to support the community with
equipmenta to cultivate the rice.
According to him, the community was asked to form smaller farm-groups for the full implementation of the project to begin.
Nana Mensah-Takyi noted that the District Assembly was making efforts to eliminate schools under-trees with the provision of classroom blocks for selected communities.
“The District Assembly has provided 7,400 mono and double desks to various schools in the district to the shortage of desk in schools,” he added.
On the development of health care delivery in the district, the DCE said they have built a clinic and nurses’ quarters to accommodate newly posted nurses to the community.
On issues related to child labour, the DCE said his outfit was collaborating with other partners to eliminate its worst forms through education in the communities.
He explained that since the Assembly was a new one revenue generation was low and that they would focus on awareness creation for the communities to know the importance of paying tolls to the Assembly for the development of the district.
The District has also been allocated 10 borehole projects.
