The Spokesperson for Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME), Barbara Serwaa Asamoah has debunked claims by the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) that Nana Konadu’s posters are being covered with that of President Mills.
According to Barbara Asamoah, fighting for space to paste posters is not strange in an election and wondered why FONKAR will make allegations that GAME had taken over all open spaces especially in Sunyani to paste President Mills’ posters.
Barbara, who was speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem which was broadcast from Sunyani on Friday, said in all general elections, political parties or candidates fight for space to paste their posters and the rush for space would be even more heated for an election in one political party.
But Paul Boateng, a leading member of FONKAR who was also on the show rejected Miss Asamoah’s explanation alleging that the placement of President Mills’ posters over the former First Lady’s was all part of a ploy to sabotage Nana Konadu’s presidential ambitions.
He added that any attempt to stop Nana Konadu’s political dreams would not be tolerated.
In what became a heated back and forth argument between the two, Paul Boateng also criticized the decision not to allow Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings to address the delegates and party faithful when her contestant, President Mills, was a key speaker.
He alleged that the decision was a calculated attempt to deny the former First Lady the opportunity to sell herself and her message to the delegates for the last time adding that GAME was afraid Nana Konadu’s last minute speech would win her more votes.
Barbara Asamoah however denied that allegation stating that all the speakers would be addressing the participants in various capacities;
Professor Mills as the President, John Dramani Mahama as the Vice President and former President Rawlings as the founder of the NDC and they did not know in which capacity Nana Konadu would be allowed to speak.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) national congress is starting on Friday July 8 and will end on Sunday, July 10 with over 3,000 party delegates expected to choose a presidential candidate to lead the party in the 2012 elections.
As if in anticipation of violence at the Congress due to the acrimonious campaign, about 1,500 police personnel have been deployed to Sunyani along with other national security and private security personnel to see to it that the Congress is held peacefully.
