The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the National Democratic Congress to let peace and unity prevail after the congress.
Giving a fraternity message at the ongoing special national delegates’ congress of the NDC in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, Sammy Awuku, a member of the NPP’s Communications team noted that peace is an essential tool for development, and therefore urged supporters of the party to embrace it.
Sammy Awuku said internal party elections deepen party democracy and therefore sees the congress as very important.
‘We in the largest party despite being in the other political devide, recognize that the NDC should have a peaceful congress. I hope at the end of this congress, acronyms like GAME, SADAM and OLONKAR and other acronyms will cease,’ he stressed.
He added that ‘the country has been polarized with inter party agitations and therefore called on politicians to ensure that Ghanaians enjoy peace.
Meanwhile, Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Congress (PNC) also wished the NDC a peaceful congress.
“We wish the NDC well in this congress. The outcome of this contest will to a large extent impact on the unity of your party, and ultimately contribute to the growth of democracy in Ghana. Remember that in the second round of the 2008, you got some support from the PNC. We hope you will extend the same thing to us when we come tops in 2012.
Bede Ziedeng, General Secretary of the Democratic Freedom Party, founded by Obed Yao Asamoah who broke away from the NDC, confirmed that the two parties are in merger talks.
There were solidarity messages also from the Convention People’s Party and the Great Consolidated Popular Party, who all wished the NDC a peaceful congress.
