Eeven before voting officially begins at the Sunyani Coronation Park; President John Evans Atta Mills has declared himself the victor. President Mills in his address as leader of the NDC, has reminded delegates and the gathering to let unity and togetherness be seen among them after the contest. “The only reason to seek power is to help raise the living standards of our people. Let us remember we are all from one family. There should be no insults or display of hostilities. The battle has already been won. I want us to leave a legacy for the international community to see that even after this contest we are a strong and united family," President Mills stressed. Meanwhile, in apparent response to claims by former President Rawlings (who spoke just before the President did) that the Mills administration has failed to arrest, prosecute and jail members of the erstwhile Kufuor administration suspected of unlawful conduct, President Mills declared: “We have made and continue to make the great effort to ensure that there is justice in the country." Former President Rawlings in his address raised concerns over alleged intimidation of delegates by some District Chief Executives. "DCE’s are intimidating delegates by telling them their actions (voting) are being monitored by CCTV. Don’t allow the financial inducements undermine your convictions. Make a choice based on the facts and principles", Mr. Rawlings claimed. Vice President John Dramani Mahama in an earlier speech said that President Mills was prepared to accept the verdict of congress. “Our people are going to speak today, and we must accept their verdict… I can presume that I speak for Prof Mills because I am his Vice President, that he will accept the verdict", Veep Mahama told party members. Delivering his report, NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah dismissed calls by the opposition NPP for the scrapping of the recently launched Heroes Fund. "On what basis do they honour their polling station agents every year" he questioned. Mr. Nketiah said the NDC will not be detracted from its chosen path so far as they hold the view that it will help to better the welfare of its people. He announced that offices had been secured for the administration of the Fund, while disbursement is expected soon. Story: Jerry Tsatro Mordy/Asempa News/Ghana
