An Accra circuit court has adjourned the case in which 20 men are being tried for their involvement in the clashes at Madina over a piece of land.
Justice Eric Kyei Baffour adjourned the case to the 10th of August after the prosecution had prayed for time to examine the report of a government committee that investigated the clashes.
The 20 suspects are accused of vandalizing the Faith Community Baptist School in Madina two months ago and have been charged with four counts of rioting with weapons, causing unlawful damage and assault of a public officer.
They all plead not guilty to the charges.
Following the violence, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Nii Armah Ashitey, set up a committee to investigate the cause of the violence and to determine the rightful owners of the disputed piece of land at Madina, a suburb of Accra.
Two factions are laying claim to the land; the Faith Community Baptist School and a section of residents in the area.
Irate youth destroyed a lot of school property injuring many including some students the confusion.
Speaking after the adjournment of the case, Assistant Head Pastor of the Faith Baptist Community School, Reverend Joseph Yeboah, expressed worry about the slow pace of the trial.
He said “we understand the process and we are ready to go along with it”.
