The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) says it will embark on a four day hunger strike starting Tuesday July 12 to Friday July 16, to press home their call for the resignation of the leadership of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). GNAT expelled the leadership of the group calling itself the Coalition of Concerned Teachers. GNAT said the decision became necessary due to the persistent peddling of falsehood by the coalition, which has also been calling for the removal of the leadership of GNAT and NAGRAT for what the group claimed is their poor handing of the migration of teachers onto the Single Spine Salary Structure in February. But the leadership of the Coalition says attempts to have the leadership of GNAT to resign quietly had necessitating the adoption of the hunger strike to force them out. Speaking to Asempa News, the National Communications Officer of the coalition, Ernest Opoku noted that preparations have been made to commence the hunger strike tomorrow. He said they are expecting teachers from all over the country to join the hunger strike in order to get the needed attention from the leadership of GNAT. He hinted that their sole mission is to get the leadership of GNAT; Paul Apanga- President, Irene Duncan Adanusa- General Secretary and Awotwe Nkansah- Deputy secretary resign their positions. Ernest Opoku stated that they will converge at the T.U.C Headquarters and march to the GNAT headquarters where the hunger strike will be declared. He said they have alerted the police and hope the police will not apply force on them. Meanwhile, an Accra High Court presided over by His Lordship Eric Kyei-Baffuor has placed an injunction on the planned demonstration by Coalition of Concerned Teachers on Tuesday.
