The Management of the Saltpond Offshore Producing Company says Engineer John Asemaku who drowned in an oil tank could have prevented his death.
The engineer slipped off a ladder when he entered the chamber of a tank in an attempt to stop a leakage.
Project Manager of the company, Ken Oham told Joy News that per an initial plan, "he was supposed to enter the tank, that was when he should have stopped to review the work again, but he didn’t do that…I am calling it an accident and not a blame.”
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Cape Coast regional hospital.
Ken Oham said the company is in touch with his family and promised to pay the appropriate compensation.
Meanwhile the Mfantsiman municipal police command has commenced investigations into the accident.
