The Nana Konadu campaign team is urging ex-President Jerry Rawlings and his family to stay out of the ruling National Democratic Congress' 2012 campaign, unless the party hierarchy apologizes for the 'excesses' of the Sunyani Congress.
The Konadu campaign team is referring to the cold reception for Mr. and Mrs. Rawlings as well as the hooting they suffered at the congress as delegates shouted “away! away! away!”.
NDC Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu who is the campaign coordinator for Nana Konadu's failed bid to be elected flagbearer of the NDC, told Asempa News on Tuesday that the campaign team wants Mr. Rawlings to stand by his statement early on that ‘he will not campaign for President Atta Mills and John Mahama-led NDC again’.
Mr. Teye Nyaunu alleged that the party’s Propaganda Secretary, Richard Quashigah and others went round inciting the delegates to ignore the Rawlingses which he claimed the delegates heeded to, thereby, embarrassing the NDC founder when he entered the Sunyani Coronation Park as well as while addressing congress.
He added that the delegates were induced financially, stressing that some of the delegates got as much as GH¢2,000.
Mr. Teye Nyaunu is therefore challenging the NDC to go ahead and induce the whole Ghanaian voters in next year’s general elections.
According to Mr. Nyaunu, FONKAR (Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings which is separate from the campaign team), will always be there to support and redeem the image of the Rawlingses.
Meanwhile NDC MP for Prestea Huni Valley, Francis Adu Blay Koffie has refuted the allegation of financial inducement of delegates at congress by Mr. Teye Nyaunu.
