A 40-year-old trotro driver is alleged to have committed suicide at the Agona Nyarkrom Police Station in the Central Region.
The wife of the deceased, Yaa Afua, says her late husband, Kofi Effah, allegedly committed suicide by hanging on the metal bars at the police cells.
Narrating the story to Asempa News, Yaa Afua explained that Kofi Effah used to live at Achiase in the Eastern Region but traveled to work as a galamsey operator at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
She said while working at Obuasi, Kofi Effah allegedly incurred debts to one of his colleagues before moving to Agona Nyarkrom in the Central Region to join his wife.
Yaa Afua added that her husband's creditors started searching for him until someone hinted them that he was at Nyarkrom.
She added that the creditors pounced on him on Tuesday at Nyarkrom and took him to the police station.
Yaa Afua who claimed she just delivered twins, said they pleaded with the police to grant him bail but the police refused until Wednesday morning when the police informed her that her husband had committed suicide.
When Asempa News contacted the Nyarkrom District Commander, DSP Ackah, confirmed the story and said the corpse had been sent to the police hospital in Accra.
He explained that the police officers on duty have been directed to investigate the matter.
