The Western Regional Office of Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSSU) has mounted a search for four young men who gang-raped a 15-year-old girl in May at Fijai, near Takoradi.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi on Thursday, The Western Regional DOVSSU Coordinator, Mr Lawrence Gbele, said the crime was committed on May 28 at about 11:30 hours.
The girl was on an errand to purchase medicine to treat rashes on her legs when a private vehicle with registration number WR1587V pulled up behind her. Its four occupants asked her to direct them to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.
He said after showing them the way, one of them insisted that she should join them to the hospital but she refused.
Mr. Gbele said all of sudden, one of them grabbed her and covered her nose and mouth with a white handkerchief sprinkled with some powered substances, sending her into sudden unconsciousness.
He said that was all that the girl could remember until the next day when she was left at the same spot around 0500hours.
Mr. Gbele said after the girl was sent to the Effia-Nkwanta hospital for examination, it became evident that, she had been defiled.
The Police have invited the owner of the vehicle used to commit the crime to assist them in their investigation.
