A contempt of court suit has been brought against the Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, and the Police Commander for Accra DCOP Rose Bio Atinga.
A legal advocacy group headed by Eric Alifo, has dragged the police hierarchy to the human rights court following the institutions alleged reluctance to release a middle aged man who has been on remand for two years without a charge.
The man, known only as Kafui, was arrested on suspicion of his involvement in an armed robbery case at Madina.
The case was called in court on Monday but has been adjourned to Wednesday to allow the Attorney General additional time to present the case of the state.
Eric Alifo told Joy News the police have no justification for Kafui's continued detention.
According to him, he brought a case of unlawful detention against the Police hierarchy at the Human Rights Court, a writ the court upheld and ordered the immediate release of the suspect.
Eric Alifo stated that the IGP and his men have since failed to heed the order of the court.
He said the police hierarchy must now answer why they should not be held for contempt.
