Mr Henry Ametepe, the Volta Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has criticised Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives for “shirking their responsibilities in disaster management”.
“Our MCEs and DCEs need re-orientation on how to manage their jurisdictions. It is ridiculous to hear some Chief Executives say they do not have budgets for disasters,” he told the GNA in an interview.
He said the Assemblies, as development agents, must make contingency plans for unforeseen situations such as floods.
“What is the sense in building skyscrapers and leaving them for disaster to destroy?”
Mr Ametepe appealed to assemblies to be proactive in disaster management and partner NADMO in addressing disaster situations and meeting some needs of disaster victims.
