The Central regional Minister Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe has welcomed calls for investigations into the administration of her office but says she will not dignify what she says are baseless allegations being levelled against her by a group; the Central Regional Youth for Unity, Stability and Development, with a debate. She says she will want President Mills to set up an investigative committee to probe her to ascertain the truth or otherwise of those frivolous allegations. Madam Benyiwa Doe told Asempa News she will not spend her precious time to publicly respond to the allegations. She was responding to calls by ASEMPA NEWS for a response to the many allegations made against her by the group. Members of the youth group in a press release asked the Central Regional Minister to resign her position for allegedly misappropriating and embezzling funds meant for the construction of the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. According to the group, GH¢70m out of GH¢500m allocated for the speedy completion of the project has been released to the Central Regional Administration for the project to resume and be completed by March 2013, however they only see contractors going and coming from the regional administration office and on the site but no work has begun. They claimed their investigations had revealed that the Regional Minister and her allies at the Regional Secretariat are using the money for their personal agendas. They alleged that Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe has between April and June given GH¢3,000 to women organisers of the party without the knowledge of the regional executives. The group also claimed she has bought 100 acres of land, each in Briwa and Mumford; awarded to herself three road contracts, 17 school building contracts and eight contracts for the rehabilitation of government houses in the Cape Coast municipality. The youth group therefore called on President John Atta Mills to set up a committee to investigate the circumstances regarding the management and disbursement of funds by Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, the conduct of officials of the regional Youth and Sports Ministry as well as the finance department of the regional secretariat in failing to follow proper procedures. They threatened if the Cape Coast Stadium monies are not properly accounted for, NDC members in Cape Coast and the entire region will advise themselves in 2012.
