Students of the Ankaful Nurses Training College in Cape coast are incensed with school authorities in what they call an alarming increase in their school fees. The students say though the increment is not the first of its kind, it is too much for them to pay. Speaking with Asempa News some of the students say they were given a bill which amounted to seven hundred and seventy Five Ghana Cedis on the day of vacation but the amount later changed to nine hundred and five Ghana Cedis. According to the students there had been additional items to the initial bill given them while some of the prices of the existing ones had been inflated but were given no explanation whatsoever. However, they said they risk failing their exams if they sought clarification regarding the new fees since it might be construed as challenging the school authorities. Meanwhile, the Principal of the Ankaful Nurses Training College, Mr. William Johnson has acknowledged the change in the initial bill given to the students. He told Asempa News that the increment came after a meeting of all heads of Nurses Training Colleges in the country at Tamale after the students had received the first bill. Mr. Johnson said that the Ministry of Health communicated the new approved fees to all Principals at the meeting which led to the increase in the initial amounts the students had to pay. The school authorities explained the reasons for the increment to the students before they were handed the newly approved fees by the Ministry of Health, Mr. Johnson disclosed.
