The General Secretary of Heads of Senior High Schools (CHASS) says Senior High Schools risk being congested unless government takes immediate steps to address the issue.
Government promised to provide additional classroom blocks to contain students moving to their fourth year as part of the SHS programme.
Construction works on most of the extra classrooms are yet to be completed whiles others have come to a complete halt.
The General Secretary of CHASS Felix Essah-Hienno told Joy News the situation has compelled most schools to improvise in order to contain newly admitted students.
He said the impression should not be created that the schools have additional classroom blocks and dormitories.
According to him, government promised to build six unit class room blocks to ease the peculiar accommodation challenges, “unfortunately not all the schools have got their full complements of the classrooms yet,” he said.
He said the situation has created enormous pressure on the schools.
But the Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry Paul Krampah in a reaction assured that by September, majority of the schools will have their class room blocks completed.
He said, already, 300 six-unit blocks have been completed nationwide.
“It is not possible for every contractor to finish his work within a specific period of time,” he stated adding the minister has appointed a supervisor to ensure that the contractors complete on time.
