The Accra Circuit Court has granted an application by counsel for Amina Mohammed, the woman at the centre of an alleged mass rape on a Yutong bus, to recall Michael Ofosu Frimpong, a prosecution witness in the case, for further cross examination. Mr Andy Appiah Kubi, the counsel, prayed the court at its sitting yesterday on the need to recall the witness and his prayer was upheld by the court. The matter was adjourned to October 13, 2011, at the instance of the prosecution because, according to Mavis Kwanoie, Assistant State Prosecutor (ASA), the substantive prosecutor, Mr Paul Abariga, was outside the jurisdiction on an official assignment. Frimpong made news headlines when he made allegations that some influential opposition politicians advised him to lie about the 'Amina bus sex' story. He later made another revelation about the ongoing trial; that Amina Mohammed took him to the office of the prosecutor, Mr Abariga, who in turn took him to the office of the Attorney General, Mr Martin Amidu. At the office of the Attorney General, Frimpong said he was told that the only condition under which he could be let off the hook was to dis¬count his earlier claims of being on board the said bus at the time of the incident and name the NPP stalwarts as those who asked him to go and make those claims on radio. The last time he appeared in court, Frimpong, among other things, alleged that he was offered GH¢90,000 by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) big shots to go and corroborate Amina's story, a claim they have all rubbished and treated with contempt. Amina, the woman who made the allegation of the mass rape on a Yutong bus at Kubiase, is standing trial on two counts of causing fear and panic and deceit of public officer. She has pleaded not guilty and is currently on bail.
