The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has expressed worry over the lack of adequate school teachers in the district. He said the dream of having professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers among others in the district, was in jeopardy due to the shortage of teachers who were needed to impart knowledge. Mr Buah, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Energy, expressed the concern at Nkroful when heads of departments of the Ellembelle District Assembly paid a-one-week official visit to 20 communities in the area. The visit was to afford them the opportunity to ensure that the decentralization policy gets to the doorsteps of the people at the grassroots. He was accompanied by the District Chief Executive, Mr Daniel Eshun; a former Minister for Health and now Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. George Sipa Yankey and the District Director of Education, Mrs. Caroline Diana Gyimah. Mr Buah said reports from the District Education Directorate indicated that only three teachers were posted to the district this year which could affect the district's performance in education. He appealed to chiefs and opinion leaders to bring their children, who were qualified and were interested to enter the teacher training colleges for the district to sponsor and benefit from them. He disclosed that with assistance from the United States of America, a Police Marine training school was to be established at Aiyinase and he prevailed upon parents to educate their wards to take up such emerging opportunities. Mr Buah assured the people that all communities in the district would soon be connected to the national electricity grid. Mr Eshun the DCE of the area called on the youths to learn trades in order to be self-sufficient, adding that the emergence of businesses in the area required the services of skilled labour, especially in catering and other vocations. He appealed to the chiefs and people of the district to rekindle the communal spirit in order to tidy-up their environment, adding that the Assembly had procured 4 additional Zoomlion containers to improve sanitation in the area. Mr Eshun observed that revenue generation of the district had declined and urged the people to pay their rates and other taxes for the Assembly to speed up the development of the area. The District Director of Education who was also at the event said upon the advice of the Directorate, the MP had registered 140 school candidates at the cost of GH¢ 8,000 for private exams in the core subjects. He, however expressed sadness at the situation where candidates were not attending classes. At Ambain, the chief, Nana,Nyameke Fofole II thanked the MP and his entourage for the visit and urged them to make it a routine. He said it was the first experience of the community and expressed optimism that more of such visits would make the people feel part of the Assembly.
