The Ivorian Ambassador to Ghana, Bernard Ehui Koutouan has called on Ivorian nationals in Ghana to return home to help rebuild their country. Hundreds of Ivoirians fled their country after a dispute over election results led to an outbreak of violence between supporters of ousted President Laurent Gbagbo and current President Allassane Ouattara. Speaking at a reception Sunday evening to commemorate the Ivorian Independence Day in Ghana, Ambassador Ehui Koutouan urged Ivorians in Ghana, particularly those who are seeking refuge in Ghana as a result of the conflict to return home since peace has now been restored. He said security has also improved and President Ouattara has instituted measures for a reconciliation project which is aimed at further uniting the country. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the President and people of Ghana for their support during the recent political conflict. He made particular mention of President Mills to whom he said President Ouattara was grateful for the decisive stance he took on Ivory Coast while that country was trying to resolve its political stalemate. Ambassador Ehui Koutouan asked the Ivorian community not to forget the ideals of their first President Félix Houphouët-Boigny. He also asked them to be guided by what President Ouattara stands for - “unity, discipline and wealth.” He also extended an invitation to the business community to resume business with the Ivory Coast. The reception was attended by members of the Ivorian community in Ghana, representatives from other foreign missions and representatives from the Ghanaian government.
