An Accra High Court has adjourned to Friday the hearing of the contempt suit filed against the Inspector General of Police and the Accra Police commander.
The case was adjourned to enable the judge to get acquainted with the facts.
The suit filed by the Legal Aid NGO, Help Law Ghana, accuses the IGP of flouting a court directive to release an armed robbery suspect.
Eric Delanyo Alifo, Lawyer for the suspect told Joy News his client has been kept for nearly three years without a charge and a court order.
His client was arrested in 2008 over the Madina Ecobank armed robbery but has denied any involvement.
He told Joy News' Cyrus DeGraft Johnson no charge has officially been served on his client.
He said they were forced to haul the IGP for contempt because his outfit refused to respect an earlier court decision to release his client who had been kept in prison custody unlawfully.
The case will be recalled on Friday.
