Two children were burnt to death on Tuesday, when fire gutted the room in which they were sleeping at Adukrom in the Eastern Region.
The Akropong Police Crime Officer, Tony Addipah, gave their names as Christabel Ofori Anibea, four years, of Dodiak Education Complex at Adukrom, and her sister, Laura Ofori Yeboah, a three-month-old baby.
Their charred bodies have been sent to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital mortuary at Marnpong Akuapem.
Though the cause of the fire is unknown, Mr. Addipah said a lit lantern was found in the room after the fire had been brought under control.
He said the room has no electricity and a gas cylinder which was found there was empty.
The mother of the children, Rita Amoako, a 29-year-old trader, amidst tears, told the Ghanaian Times newspaper that around 5:45.a.m, she and her eldest child woke up to sweep the house.
According to her, when she returned after about five minutes, she found that her room was on fire.
She tried to enter the room to save her two children but the blazing fire prevented her and some neighbours who had come to assist.
Together, she said they fetched water to put out the fire after about 30 minutes.
She said at the time of the incident her husband had travelled leaving her with their four children, two of whom perished in the fire.
Mr Addipa said police would investigate the cause of the fire.
