A group of Ghanaian Catholic Youth had arrived in Astorga, Spain, to take part in this year’s Catholic World Youth Day celebration.Pope Benedict would celebrate mass with the tens of thousands of young people from across the world, gathering in Madrid for the annual event to renew their faith and deepen their commitment to work towards the growth of the Catholic Church.The celebration, under the theme: “Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith,” would be held from August 15-21.The Ghanaians, on arrival, were taken on a guided tour of some historic and religious tourist sites including the Convent of Sisters of Mother Theresa, Convent of Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi and the Santa Clara Monastery.They later celebrated mass with some Nuns and prayed for peace in all troubled spots of the world.Mr Edward Dampah-Yin, General Secretary of the Ghana National Catholic Youth Council, said the Day was an important spiritual event which occurred once in the life of every youth of the church.Its goal is to help bring more people closer to God.He said the expectation was that those privileged to be part of this year’s celebration, would use their experience to assist transform the lives of many young people in the country.
